===============================
Tranny Fest, established in 1997, is the nation’s first transgender/genderqueer film festival and emerged for the same reason so many marginalized communities have organized film festivals: the absence of authentic representations of transgender lives and experiences in the mainstream commercial media. In the 12 years since, Tranny Fest has remained defiant, proudly programming outside the box, exhibiting groundbreaking, provocative, outrageous, courageous, moving and innovative works that show the complexity of lives lived on the transgender/genderqueer spectrum.
Tranny Fest Artistic Director Shawna Virago, a long time favorite in San Francisco’s underground transgender music scene, is widely celebrated as a gifted lyricist and edgy provocateur.
The Festival’s co-presenter, Fresh Meat Productions, is an award-winning leader in the creation and presentation of transgender and queer arts. www.freshmeatproductions.org
