Empower Yourself with Physical, Verbal and Mental Tools to Stay Strong, Safe and Free! When: Saturday, January 9th - 1:30-4:30pm Where: The SF LGBT Community Center - 1800 Market Street (at Octavia) in the Ceremonial Room (4th Floor) 415.865.5555 www.sfcenter.org What could I possibly learn about self-defense in three hours? Lots. You will learn physical techniques to disable an attacker and get away safely. You will learn non-violent communication/assertiveness skills to help you navigate a variety of situations – from dealing with the people in your life to strangers you encounter along the way. You will learn mental and emotional strategies to feel safe and free to live your life more fully. The teacher, Wendi Deetz, believes that we must fight back against injustice of all kinds, that we have the right to live more freely, to be out in the world and proud of who we are, to rage against oppression, to be out for ourselves in every aspect of our lives so we can make the world a better place! Defending yourself effectively is not about changing your personality or following one set of rules. It's about using your strengths, your experiences, your wit, your creativity and your belief that you're worth defending to live without restriction due to the fear of violence. Suggested donation: $15-$20 – no one turned away for lack of funds! Space is limited – please RSVP by January 8th to wendideetz@gmail.com Center Women Present is a queer women's initiative started at the San Francisco LGBT Community Center, serving all self-identified women, including lesbians, queer, bisexual, and transgender community members. The program intends to address women's community issues through volunteer-led projects and is shaped primarily by input of community members, with assistance of The Center's staff.
