Here is some of Natalie's Story...and why your support is greatly needed:
On April 3rd, Natalie woke up very early due to an excruciating pain in her right side that wouldn't go away. After talking to the emergency nurse,, we headed to the ER shortly after noon that Sunday. This was the first of 17 long days that she was hospitalized.
The next few days were a series of tests, cat scans, and ultra sounds to determine what was going on. After 4 terrifying days in the hospital, one doctor came in to her room and announced that the pelvic ultra sound revealed the pain in her right side was due to a cyst that exploded. And, it also revealed masses on both her ovaries and over her uterus......meanwhile, her breathing started to become very difficult. In fact, by Monday night she was gasping for air and couldn't breathe on her own. Her lungs had no ability to retain oxygen.
Tests results from the cat scan on her lungs, all given while she was horizontal and barely able to breath, revealed blood clots on her lungs. Several blood clots were found scattered on both lungs, and one very large one landed on her left lung; aka pulminary embolisms. The source of these blood clots was a DVT- deep venous thrombosis- in her left leg. We are still not certain if this formed due to an old injury, genetics, sitting for hours tattooing, or what exactly caused this problem. We do know it was a blessing in disguise that she was already in the hospital when the blood clot released into her lungs.
It has been a long, scary ride and we are uncertain when this story will end.
Today Natalie is:
-Home, doing better with the help of medications
-Still unable to work, due to illness & overall weakness
-Dealing with lost wages for the entire month of April, due to hospitalization and watching the medical bills, doctor appointments, tests, and medications costs pile up
-Facing at least another 6 to 9 months of lost income due to current recovery for her lungs and possibly longer because of the ovarian cysts that cannot be addressed until she is stable enough for surgery.
-A tattoo artist, and independent contractor, she is ineligible for unemployment or short term disability insurance through the state of CA.
-Needs your help and support in anyway you can afford it; financially, emotionally, a ride to the doctor, a call, or just a visit.
Thank you so much for reading, helping, spreading the word and sending love!
